Open Source Design Resources
As a student free is nearly always the way to go, so today I want to share a couple free open source web design resources that I have come across while working on my site. Many of you may already be familiar with these but I want to do my part to help spread the word. If you have any additional information worth noting please leave a comment to share with the rest of us!
Google Fonts - The name says it all. This is a great collection of over 500+ free open source web fonts. When I first stumbled across this site I wondered why Google chose the phrase to display the sample of the font and quickly it contained every letter of the alphabet. There are also numerous filters you can specify so if you are looking for a specifc style of font you should be able to quickly find it. The great thing about Google Fonts is it allows you to link to the font file on their server or to download the font file directly if you’d like. It’s a great site, definitely worth checking out.
Subtle Patterns - I have to give credit to one of my Professor Karla for finding this gem. This site has tons of great subtle backgrounds for you to use for free! I didn’t have much time to browse through the collection but some of what I did see was great. There are both dark and light patterns available on the site and the collection is growing daily.
These are just a couple great resources that I want to share. As I run across more I'll add additional posts.
